Born and raised in Maine, one of my fondest memories of Spring is enjoying the tastes, sights and smells of Maine Maple Weekend! There’s nothing like having a piece of maple candy dissolve on your tongue while watching sap boil down.

This year at Best of Maine we’re headed to Hilltop Boilers in Newfield (within an hour of most southern Maine locations) to check out their brand new sugar shack, as pictured below.

Hilltop Boilers produces every type of award-winning maple product you’ve ever imagined and there are special deals and samples available at the sugar shack.

Even better? You can bring the whole family to enjoy this classic Maine experience! There are lots of free activities to keep the kids busy and the Axe Women Loggers of Maine (female timber sports) will even be performing on two of the days.

Below is the detailed info on dates/times of the events they have planned. Make sure to RSVP on Facebook if you plan to attend!

Saturday, March 17 (9am – 4pm)
Get exclusive maple deals with free activities and entertainment! Dodge the crowds of the following official weekend by coming on this Saturday. The Axe Women Loggers of Maine (female timber sports) will put on shows at 9:30, 11:00, 1:00, and 2:30. Special pricing on award winning maple syrup is available this day, as well as farm tours, games/activities, and a barnyard of animals including cows, calves, chickens and pigs. Enter the sap lugging contest along with other contests such as name the calf, and guess the weight of the pigs. Nearly a dozen John Deere tractors for kids to drive and play on throughout the farm yard. See wildlife such as a fennec fox, an alligator and an armadillo from Wildlife Encounters.

Saturday, March 24 (9am – 4pm)
Kick off the official Maine Maple Weekend with all the same family friendly activities and entertainment that you can read about in the March 17th description above!

Sunday, March 25 (9am – 4pm)
Visit the sugarhouse for award winning maple syrup, farm tours, games/activities, and a barnyard of animals, including cows, calves, chickens and pigs. Enter the sap lugging contest along and other contests such as name the calf and guess the weight of the pigs. Nearly a dozen John Deere tractors for kids to drive and play on throughout the farm yard. Special pricing on both days this weekend! Axe Women Loggers and Wildlife Encounters will not be there on Sunday. This is the most crowded day as it is the official Maine Maple Sunday, so we encourage you to visit on one of the Saturdays for ease of parking and less waiting.

Saturday, March 31 (9am – 4pm)
The maple store only will be open on this day. Award winning maple products will be available for sale and samples will be offered. No other events are available on this day.

Hilltop Boilers is located at 157 Elm Street in Newfield – within an hour drive of nearly all southern Maine locations and it’s well worth the trip.

Can’t make it to any of the maple events this year? We got you covered! You can get your favorite maple products delivered to your door by ordering from the Hilltop Boilers website (make sure to enter code “BESTOFMAINE” at checkout for free shipping over $50).
